Snow Fox Alerts

Sign Up For Text Message of School Closings

While I love the fact that the JCPS details are front and center on the news ticker on snowy days, I always have to keep watching to check on my wife and kids’ district and U of L too.

By that time I am awake and the snow day glory has diminished slightly. I just signed up to receive a text message alert for my cell phone from Fox 41 that will tell me about delays and closings.

It was easy, free, and I could choose which counties I wanted to be included.  Other options include severe weather, amber alerts and breaking news too.  Once you fill out the form you receive a 5 digit pin number on your phone that you have to enter on a web form to test and verify the service.

Enjoy the snow that is coming our way, I know I will!

  1. To add to the SnowFox post… I rec’d a text this morning about my wife’s district nine minutes before it first appeared on TV and fifteen minutes before the automated call. I received a text this morning at 10:50 AM regarding the JCPS early dismissal, approximately 20 minutes before the district homepage was updated. Crossing my fingers for an update about U of L :)

  2. I use virgin mobile as my cell phone carrier and I too signed up for the text alerts from Fox 41, but for some reason the 5-digit authorization code won’t send to my phone. I’ve tried entering my number including the area code, without the area code, etc, but it won’t send to my phone! I’m very frustrated.

    • Not, sure what the problem might be. I did notice there was a Virgin Mobile USA and also Canada. Anyone else have trouble getting that first test message to be delivered?

  3. Whats the deal with getting 6 or 7 of the same texts in a row within 10 minutres? Its not just me.. Others have had the same problem. With the tornado warnings….we received the same messeage 25 times between 3:30 am and 4:30 am! How frustrating when you have to work the next day!! I have tried to cancel the text alerts, but the unsubscribe page keeps asking me to type in my e-mail and phone number. I do, but it wont let me through. Again…whats the deal with this?!

    • Good question. I’ve heard the same thing. Personally, I don’t subscribe to the weather alerts. I just stick to the school closings. Has anyone been successful unsubscribing? How did you manage it?
