Halloween Party Music

Pandora users can select “Genre Stations” then “Listen Now” and choose either “Halloween Party Music” or “Spooky Symphonies” to bring a little extra flavor into the next few days of class.

If you haven’t set up Pandora yet, here is my handout on the subject: Pandora Internet Radio Directions

You can save a step and click on the links below, but you will still need a Pandora account:

Halloween Party Radio (Time Warp, Thriller, etc)

Spooky Symphonies (Spooky classical music and film scores etc.)

Drips

http://drips.nalindesign.com/

“Drips” is a an interesting painting application. It gives you random colors of paint and you drip them around the canvas. It states that you can use your webcam, but I chose to use the mouse option. I found the painting to be fun and whimsical,  and  I imagine it would be an interesting springboard for a discussion of color, abstract expressionism or white space.

I enjoyed the ability to paint in “full screen” mode and thought that the option to create a desktop wallpaper with my creation was terrific.

Let each class member do a drip or two for a big collaborative piece of art that can decorate the desktop of your Tablet PC for the next few weeks! Be sure to check out more online painting and drawing options at Tablet Talk’s Art, Music And PE Links

Enjoy!

Find The Readablility Level Of Text

Situation: You found a great piece of informational that you want to have your students read, but you aren’t sure if it is within their reading ability. What do you do? One option is to perform a quick readability test at Read-Able.com.

Step One: Select and copy the URL or web address of the article in question.

Step Two: Navigate to http://www.read-able.com/ and paste the URL into the text box. Click “Calculate Readability.”

After you select “Calculate” you are given multiple results about the reading level. No matter what reading index you are comfortable with, this will give a pretty good idea of the reading level of different items you are having students read.

Finally, if the text you want to learn about is on a document and not a webpage, you can run the same test with pasting the text of the document in the box after selecting “Test by Direct Input.”

I hope you enjoy finding text that is ‘just right’ for your students!
